How to Develop LLN Assessments
Recorded Thursday 6 May 2021
Are your students properly equipped to engage with learning and life?
Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) skills are now recognised as fundamental to improved workforce participation, productivity and social inclusion. Every workplace task involves reading, writing, speaking, listening and mathematical skills. Learners who have limitations in one or more of these core LLN skill areas, will have difficulty participating in training programs and in achieving necessary workplace skills.
The development of relevant LLN skills at the appropriate level should therefore be seen as an integral component of a trainer’s practice, as they need to ensure that LLN skill development occurs, to maximise all learners’ chances of a successful outcome against the training specification requirements. As such, it is important that LLN assessments are developed to assist trainers in identifying the key LLN skill development needs of their learners and the related support required.
This webinar with Marc Ratcliffe explores key considerations for trainers when developing LLN assessments and provides examples of how these could be managed. It aims to equip attendees with a starting blueprint for the development of a tool, prior to being verified and evaluated by a suitably qualified body. It will also provide details for where to access “approved LLN assessment tools” for the purpose of complying with relevant regulatory requirements, such as for use by VET Help Loans approved course providers.
This one hour session will:
Discuss the importance of developing LLN assessments within a VET setting
Identify how to structure an LLN assessment
Outline ways to manage the LLN assessment process
Identify approved LLN assessment tools
