How and why this framework needs to be different to a process to employer-supported RPL framework

Australia is facing a skills shortage and needs a flexible and compliant Candidate-Centred approach to Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) - to make the skills recognition process for both current residents and potential immigrants a less onerous and less painful exercise.

This requires that the focus of a recognition process needs to be more about what people can show us and tell us, rather than gathering a multitude of paperwork which does not always demonstrate an individual’s abilities. And, unfortunately, RPL is not a process that many assessors report feeling fully skilled at or confident to offer to potential candidates.

As Australia moves to address the critical skills shortages in a number of industries, people and organisations who can effectively and efficiently support the recognition of existing skills of workers will be in high demand.

With RPL veteran and expert, Wendy Cato, take your understanding of RPL and your RPL practice and processes to the next level with these sessions designed to highlight one of the most under-utilised avenues in addressing future skills supply.

In this session learn about:

  • What non-employer-supported RPL is and when/why it is used
  • How and why this framework needs to be different to a process of employer-supported RPL
  • Challenges and strategies to support a candidate in a non- employer supported RPL
  • The roles and responsibilities of the assessor in this framework
  • What the difference is between a professional discussion and a competency conversation
  • Assessment methodologies and how they vary from an employer-supported model
  • How to support evidence gathering when no documentation is available

Here's what we know about RPL...

  • Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a current ASQA risk priority. Go beyond compliance issues to discuss and share ideas and best-practice approaches with others in the RPL space

  • RPL is an advanced assessor skill and not all assessors report feeling confident to conduct RPL. Build confidence and learn from others

  • Australia is in the midst of a skills shortage, and requirements to formally recognise informal learning are growing. Join the discussions on practices and ways to conduct the process

  • There is a great emphasis on better RPL practices being used for skills recognition of overseas skills labour. Find out more and how to better service this market

  • Smart HE providers will start to evaluate their recognition practices. Stay ahead of the curve

  • Having skills and knowledge recognised matters - RPL matters!
