Building relationships with employers for RPL frameworks

Australia is facing a skills shortage and needs a flexible and compliant Candidate-Centred approach to Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) - to make the skills recognition process for both current residents and potential immigrants a less onerous and less painful exercise.

This requires that the focus of a recognition process needs to be more about what people can show us and tell us, rather than gathering a multitude of paperwork which does not always demonstrate an individual’s abilities. And, unfortunately, RPL is not a process that many assessors report feeling fully skilled at or confident to offer to potential candidates.

As Australia moves to address the critical skills shortages in a number of industries, people and organisations who can effectively and efficiently support the recognition of existing skills of workers will be in high demand.

With RPL veteran and expert, Wendy Cato, take your understanding of RPL and your RPL practice and processes to the next level with these sessions designed to highlight one of the most under-utilised avenues in addressing future skills supply.

In this session learn about:

  • What employer-supported RPL is and when/why it is used
  • What you – as an assessor – need to do when working within this framework
  • Steps to creating a partnership in an employer-supported framework for RPL
  • The roles and responsibilities of employers within this framework
  • Assessment methodologies and how and why they vary when used in an employer-supported RPL model
