Build solid foundations for success - help your young VET learners deal with distractions, anxiety, and staying on task

Structure and predictability are key ingredients for young VET learners to thrive. They need structure and predictability around their learning to help them focus and understand what is expected of them.

Structured learning environments provide young VET learners with routines and activities which help them engage and connect their understanding of the ‘why and what’ of their training.  They also help to foster and support a safe learning environment, especially for these young VET learners who may have been impacted by trauma.

Structured learning can also help to improve young VET learners’ ability to focus on tasks and to smoothly transition between tasks by creating the right learning situations.

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the importance of structured learning strategies in helping reduce young VET learners’ anxiety and memory overload (aka cognitive load)
  • Select the most appropriate structured learning strategies to support different learning outcomes
  • Develop a structured learning activity plan for their training program which fosters young VET learner engagement and success
