This Live Meet Up (LMU)

Day: Friday 20 March 2026

Time: 1pm AEST (Qld time)

Topic: The Art and Science of Facilitating RPL – Why recognition is a craft; not a checkbox

This session welcomes guest speaker Vanessa Solomon.

Vanessa recently wrote an article for VET Perspectives that has since been shared around the globe. Let's continue the conversation about why recognition is a craft, not a checkbox, and how both the art and science of the process can embody the very principles of contemporary adult education.

Key points:

  • RPL is one of the most misunderstood and, at times, unfairly feared practices in the Australian VET sector - it doesn't need to be
  • The science of RPL: the architecture of evidence
  • The art of RPL: making learning visible through RPL
  • The assessor’s craft: where art meets science
  • A strong view: we should not be afraid of RPL
  • RPL as ethical, professional practice

Members are encouraged to read the article prior to the LMU to fully participate in the session on the day.

LMUs are a benefit of RPL Matters membership. The event will be recorded; to see the recording you must be an RPL Matters membership subscriber.
