How to ensure learning can still happen for adult learners

Adult learners bring life experiences that deeply influence their engagement with learning.

This session reframes teaching delivery through the lens of mental health literacy and trauma-informed practice. It will share frameworks that help trainers recognise mental health signals, build psychological safety, and weave wellbeing into everyday teaching.

Participants will receive a guidance booklet to design learning activities that balance rigour with empathy - creating classrooms where learners feel seen, supported, and capable.

Learning outcomes:

  • Recognise how mental health challenges affect learning
  • Apply trauma-informed and mentally healthy teaching strategies
  • Design activities that foster psychological safety and belonging
