Tell me about what you’ve done

Lots can be learned from simply talking to someone. What they know, what they’ve achieved, what skills they possess. Yet, professional discussions (also known as professional conversations) with candidates for competency are not the mainstay in VET assessment.

So what goes into a professional conversation or professional discussion?

And importantly, how do you frame a good, robust, fair and interactive professional discussion?

As the assessor, it’s your job to facilitate a free-flowing conversation, but with structure to ensure the required points are covered. And from that, you must use your knowledge of the unit and job role to pull out of that conversation what is required and can be used as evidence of competency.

In this special RPL Matters event, you are invited to explore the key ingredients for how to conduct an effective professional discussion.

Look at the aims and intended outcomes of the conversation and how to ensure it’s a relevant process aligned to assessment principles and rule of evidence.
