Foster a community of learners to enhance learner engagement
Thursday 12 June 2025 | 12pm AEST | Presented by Allison Miller
Not every student is in the training room because they want to be
And even if they are there because they do want to be, not every student will feel as though they belong. For any number of reasons... As educators, we want students to feel that they are welcome, that they belong, that they can succeed.
Learners who feel that their VET educators care about them have a stronger belief that they learn better (Hattie, 2009).
This highlights the fact that VET educator-to-learner, learner-to-learner, and learner-to-VET educator relationships are so important in helping learners feel like they belong, which in turn helps to create a learning environment where learners can be successful.
This webinar will offer a broad range of learning and teaching activities that VET educators can implement to build learner engagement through supporting a community of learners and the development of effective relationship-building strategies.
Participants will be able to:
Explain how the importance and power of effective relationships supports learner engagement
Select relationship-building activities which suit their teaching and their learners’ needs, and to increase learner engagement
Establish a community of learners who support one another both in, and beyond, the classroom
