If you work in VET, you've likely come across the term 'clustering'

Clustering can be used for assessment or learning delivery, but it's not as simple as delivering two units at the same time - there needs to be a thoughtful method behind it to make it effective!

In this session we'll discuss the important factors to consider when looking to cluster units of competency, including how to do it in such a way as to mimic real-life situations, create more authentic and intuitive learning experiences for learners, and overall, an outcome more representative of relevant workplace tasks and conditions.

Many RTOs offer clustering in response to industry demand for more economic and more efficient training delivery. And for assessors, clustering gives the added bonus of more opportunity for holistic evidence gathering. Join this session to know more about this in-demand and time- and resource-saving strategy.

This session will:

  • Give us an introduction to the concept of clustering and co-delivery, including some of the benefits and pitfalls
  • Identify why clustering is a popular choice for training and assessment strategies
  • Explore an example of how the depth and breadth of the topic area can guide clustering decisions
  • Help us to understand how to visualise the required competency and what factors we need to take into consideration when doing so
  • Discuss clustering as an approach for delivery and for assessment
  • Introduce a framework for implementation, including considerations for the learning plan
