Want to know how to develop assessment tools that make assessors, employers & candidates happy?

ü Students complaining of having to do the same stuff over and over?

ü As an assessor, interested in reducing marking times and load?

ü Need a technique that will to cut the time it takes to get people qualified but remains compliant?

ü Interested in knowing more about how to apply advanced skills to your assessment tool development practice?

The Advanced Practice - Clustering course shows how to develop assessment tools to give users a better experience

What we know:

ü Clustering is recognised as an effective way to support holistic training and assessment

ü Clustering allows assessment to align with, and be more representative of, actual workplace tasks

ü Not every assessor / assessment developer has the advanced skills to properly cluster - and de-cluster! - units of competency

Why do the Advanced Practice - Clustering Credential?

ü Build knowledge, enhance existing assessment design and development skills, and learn how to create tools that assessors and students will love to use

ü Get your expertise in this area verified via assessment and earn a certification recognising your professional practice

ü Course content developed by an internationally- and nationally-recognised expert in RPL - a process which done well, relies on clustering - learn from the best

ü Understand when to cluster, when not to cluster, how to avoid the risks and how to use your advanced mapping skills to your advantage

Earn Recognition for your Professional Practice - Advanced Practice: Clustering - Microcredential

Undertake fully supported training in this highly-valued assessment development skill. Learn how to develop effective clustered assessment materials and then, have your skills and knowledge verified via assessment.

On successful completion of the program, be issued with credential to recognise your skills in this Advanced Practice: Clustering.

Note: This certification program can be taken as a stand-alone program but as clustering is a key component of candidate-centred RPL tools, the course is also embedded within the Advanced RPL Assessor certification.

Who is this course for?

ü Experienced trainers/assessor who want to build on their accredited training and further their knowledge and skills in assessment tool design and development

ü Instructional designers/assessment writers who have experience developing assessment tools and want to expand their expertise into the development of valid clustered materials

ü Compliance staff who need to understand the mechanics of this process for materials design

ü Anyone interested in learning how to apply the practice of clustering to benefit students and the assessment process

Key considerations

ü This program is not a qualification nor is it linked to a TAE Statement of Attainment

It does, however, respond to VET-sector demand for more PD on how to cluster materials. While this is touched on in TAE programs, this course goes into depth on the 'how'

ü Undertake this program with one-on-one mentor support from an experienced assessor with substantial experience in TAE and clustering

ü Access video content and eBook material, template examples, peer discussion groups, and formative quiz activities as you progress

ü Have your assessment reviewed and verified by a real person – not an automark and not in a ‘tick and flick’ process

ü On successful completion, be issued with a mapping document that shows how the program provides a practical, relevant source of advanced TAE PD aligned to specific TAE units of competency

What can I expect to achieve in the Advanced Practice: Clustering?

The Advanced Practice: Clustering program will build on your knowledge and skills to hone specific expertise in how to:

  • Identify compatible units of competency and document similarities in evidence requirements across them
  • Plan out and map the instruments to be used in the tools
  • Confidently design and develop clustered assessment tools

For people undertaking certification as recognition of their professional practice, the following will also apply:

To be awarded a microcredential, you must successfully complete an assessment according to the stipulations listed:

  • Design and develop a clustered assessment tool that:
    • Clusters two (2) units of competency at AQF level 3 or above
    • Is aligned to the vocational area in which you work

  • The clustered assessment tool will be inclusive of:
    • Candidate version of assessment
    • Assessor version of assessment - inclusive of benchmarks, exemplars, rubrics etc
    • Pre-mapping matrix
    • Mapping document

Assessments will be reviewed and verified by CatoHR Assessors as recognised experts in the field of RPL and clustered assessment tool design and development.

What do I have to do?

Already completed the learning?

If you have substantial experience or have already undertaken the learning linked to developing clustered assessment tools, you may decide to undertake certification via assessment only.

In the assessment-only pathway for this microcredential, you still have access to mentoring support if you feel you might need assistance or guidance to develop your assessment materials.

Not interested in doing the assessment?

Just after PD for advanced practitioner concepts? The Learning Program offers the same content and support as the 'Learn and Assess Certification Program' but without the need to complete any assessment activity.

Please note that while this option is an excellent PD opportunity, it does not lead to certification. On successful completion of the Learning Program, to recognise your efforts, you will be issued with a digital badge and you can trigger a personalised certification as a record of your participation. If you successfully complete the training in the Learning Program and decide at a later date you would like to be certified, you can enrol in the Certification Program; Assessment only, or Learn and Assess pathway.
