“Can I train and assess this?”
When you don’t hold the unit of competency, in some cases, there are allowances to still be able to train and assess. Focusing on vocational competencies, this session uses case study questions to give answers to “what happens when you don’t hold the unit?”
1. “I have the Diploma of Business. My RTO delivers the Diploma of Business… Perfect match! I can deliver” Or is it?
1a) “I have the Diploma of Business, I can deliver the lower-level Certificate III in Business… can’t I?”
2. “I used to own my own restaurant and now I’m teaching others. Do I really have to have a qualification?”
3. “My qualification is the latest version. Units are developed according to industry requirements. Why should I need industry currency?”
4. “I don’t feel comfortable marking this – I don’t hold the unit so don’t think I should”
5. “I’ve been delivering this unit for ages – why do I have to suddenly fill out a bunch of paperwork to say I can keep doing my job?”
If any of the above sound like you or someone you know, this session provides answers and options for addressing the implications for each scenario with a view to answering the other question “Can I train and assess this?”
