How to Validate an Assessment Tool Against the Unit
Recorded 26 Oct 2022
Whether developed or purchased, this process can be used on all assessment tools to confirm they have been designed to collect sufficient, valid evidence.
This activity is a fundamental step in ensuring the use of quality tools within your RTO's assessment system and is a process that should be carried out on all tools - whether they've been developed in-house, commissioned as bespoke product, or sourced from off-the-shelf suppliers.
Aside from the compliance aspect, find out if you've gotten what you paid for!
How To… sessions are short and to the point.
In this episode see how to conduct a validation of mapping exercise for gap analysis.
This type of validation involves checking the accuracy of data on an assessment mapping document and verifying whether the assessment tasks have been designed to collect valid evidence as per the unit of competency requirements. It will result in being able to see the extent of valid coverage of the unit requirements by the assessment tool.
Watch along to see the process
Participants are invited to watch the process example and see and hear the rationale for why specific decisions are made as to whether data on the mapping sheet is valid.
The aim is to provide guidance on how to make best-practice decisions on whether an assessment tool has been designed to meet the Principles of Assessment: Validity and Reliability.
The session will also show how to document and provide feedback to the assessment developer and/or compliance manager. Registrants will be able to see the gap analysis process and replicate in their own practice.
This How To… session is expected to run for about 30mins; up to 45mins with general Q&A.
Ideally completed on an assessment tool pre-use, this exercise can be used at any time you want to confirm the quality of a tool. Results from this type of validation activity can be used to inform continuous improvement to the RTO’s quality and assessment systems, and validation of assessment judgements that must be carried out within the mandatory 5 year validation cycle. It also acts as an early warning system regarding any potential risk to the RTO about how well it is meeting its compliance obligations [or not].
