This Live Meet Up (LMU)

Day: Friday 16 May 2025

Time: 1pm AEST (Qld time)

Topic: RPL and First Nations People

In this LMU for RPL Matters members, guest Roz Jani is going to share insights from her experience working with First Nations students.

We'll hear about:

  • How to connect the Outcome Standards to RPL practices with a First Nations emphasis
  • First Nations student welfare and how that fits into the new compliance landscape
  • Making connections with/engaging with First Nations and Torres Strait Islander students
  • Case studies of First Nations students in remote and rural areas (areas including: business; health and community services; conservation and land management (weeding, fire management); arts; music)
    • Locations
    • Recognition of existing skills and knowledges
    • Mapping those to unit performance evidence requirements
  • Understanding that First Nations peoples love learning, and recognising the difference between education vs a unit of competency
    • Comparisons and experiences with remote primary school and VET: the good, the bad and the ugly

This promises to be an extremely interesting session with lots of learnings to share!
