What can the roll-out of a national RPL Pilot Project teach us?

Speaking from experience

After spending 12 months working with the Human Services Skills Organisation (HSSO) on the national roll-out of the HSSO RPL Pilot Project for CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support, Wendy got to design, develop, implement and trial best-practice RPL tools and processes.

While a large-scale national project, the great news about the HSSO initiative is that learnings can be applied in every organisation and RTO wanting to offer efficient, valid recognition of skills (without frustration and/or tears from either the assessor or the candidate!)

In this session learn about:

  • Lessons learned from the national project
  • The number 1 thing that every RPL provider needs to do
  • Ways to make the RPL process easier to execute
  • What worked, what didn’t and why it all counts

Australia is facing a skills shortage and needs a flexible and compliant Candidate-Centred approach to Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) - to make the skills recognition process for both current residents and potential immigrants a less onerous and less painful exercise.

This requires that the focus of a recognition process needs to be more about what people can show us and tell us, rather than gathering a multitude of paperwork which does not always demonstrate an individual’s abilities. And, unfortunately, RPL is not a process that many assessors report feeling fully skilled at or confident to offer to potential candidates.

As Australia moves to address the critical skills shortages in a number of industries, people and organisations who can effectively and efficiently support the recognition of existing skills of workers will be in high demand.

Take your understanding of RPL and your RPL practice and processes to the next level with these sessions designed to highlight one of the most under-utilised avenues in addressing future skills supply.
