How to create teachable moments!
Many VET educators use the “teaching by telling” approach to education however, in order for effective teaching and learning to occur, VET educators must create an optimal learning environment which allows their learners to realise their learning potential. Further, educators must also help their learners overcome the many cognitive barriers to learning that their learners may face (Bain, 2004).
This session unpacks:
- Each of the '9 cognitive challenges which impact learning'
- For each challenge, five ways to address the challenge
- Practical learning and teaching strategies that VET educators can use to create the optimal learning environment required for their learners and teaching area
Session content will also help VET educators learn how to adapt and pivot their learning and teaching strategies for the needs of different cohorts of learners and for different learning contexts; an action which underpins the basis for a psychologically safe learning environment for all learners.
