Strategies to increase learner success in their assessment tasks
Thurs 24.10.24 12pm AEST | Presented by Allison Miller
Competency-based assessment is a journey but it's not always an easy road for learners.
Without doubt, VET assessments must meet stringent compliance requirements aimed at ensuring evidence is supplied to meet all parts of the unit of competency. This is a part of what contributes to quality outcomes and skilled VET graduates. But what about when the compliance lens ends up making the assessment task too difficult for learners to understand and complete?
When the tasks seem obscure and/or are worded in ways only a compliance guru would understand, learners tend to delay submitting their work or they submit work that falls short of the required benchmarks. This adds pressure for trainers who need to then coach learners through their re-submits, and adds pressure for learners who may feel their confidence erode.
With good reason, most RTOs are reluctant to alter assessment tools ad-hoc after they’ve already passed through rigorous pre-use validation. But did you know there is a range of easy-to-implement strategies you can use as ways to assist your learners?
