Build and support learner independence

For trainers and assessors working with prescribed content, supporting learner independence can feel out of reach. But even when the core materials are set, you can still guide learners to take greater ownership of their learning.

This session explores the shift from being a content deliverer to a learning facilitator, helping students develop the skills to find, analyse, and synthesise information independently. You’ll be introduced to practical frameworks like the CRAAP test to teach learners how to evaluate the quality and credibility of the resources they find.

Through real examples and easy-to-implement classroom activities, you’ll learn how to embed content curation and learner-led discovery into your delivery, encouraging students to become active contributors to their own, and each other’s, learning.

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the role of content curation in online and hybrid delivery
  • Support learners to search for, validate, and share information responsibly
  • Use frameworks like the CRAAP test to build learner skills in evaluating content
  • Design simple activities that encourage learner-led research and peer learning

Participants will receive a complimentary copy of "Learner-Curated Content Activities":

  • A one-page guide with practical examples of activities that help students find, evaluate, and share content in a structured way. Includes the CRAAP test as a simple framework for validating online resources, plus adaptable tasks to support engagement, discussion, and formative learning.
