Benefits and risks of technology in learning

Along with its incredible benefits, technology brings certain risks to the learning environment. Yes, there are concerns about cheating, the reduction of higher-order thinking, and the dilution of human-generated creativity, but there are also opportunities to embrace diversity and bring tailored support to the learning environment.

Underscoring the importance of building learner capacity is the need to facilitate true learning and encourage learners to embrace the benefits of this for themselves.

Simultaneously, educators must also know how to facilitate learning in such a way as to mitigate any opportunity for academic misconduct, thereby ensuring a genuine outcome for learners.

This 75 minute session will:

  • Explore a range tools we can offer learners to help with their learning processes
  • Highlight the potential of learner-centred approaches and collaborative opportunities offered by technology
  • Offer strategies to encourage learners to undertake personalised, self-direction exploration of learning concepts
  • Highlight risks in VET assessment and how we can mitigate those

To round out the series, this session will also give a brief summary of how we can use the knowledge gained in the webinars to embed sustainable education principles in our teaching practice, assessment, and learning resources.
