This session is about:

How to identify, contextualise, and teach the numeracy demands embedded in trade, health, and services training - measurement, data interpretation, estimation, ratio, and financial literacy in real work tasks.

It challenges the notion that LLN practitioners only deal with reading and writing.

From reading a dosage chart to measuring a cut or quoting a job, numeracy is hiding in plain sight in almost every trade, health and services role.

This session helps trainers and assessors spot the maths built into real work tasks – measurement, estimation, ratio, data and money – and gives you practical ways to teach it in context, so learners see exactly why it matters on the job.

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Identify numeracy demands in everyday work tasks in a variety of industries
  • Contextualise numeracy teaching in vocational training and assessment
  • Use strategies to support learners with measurement, data and financial literacy
