Let's simplify validation!

Validation is a quality mechanism used to confirm the RTO’s assessment-related products and processes. In this first 90 minute session of the Understanding Validation series, we unpack the meaning of validation and the various activities that comprise validation of the RTO’s assessment:

  • Tools
  • System
  • Practices and judgements

We briefly examine the requirements for confirming quality assessment tools with reference to the precursors across both the legislative instrument and the TAE Training Package, including how timing impacts the type of validation activity to be undertaken.

Finally, as part of the fundamentals for effective validation, we discuss the vital role of accurate assessment tool mapping as a key component of successful validation outcomes and share tips for how to ensure this foundation is in place across your assessment tools.

Key points:

  • Overview of the quality cycle as relevant to validation
  • Definition of validation according to the Outcome Standards and alignment of various RTO activities to that definition
  • Requirements in the Outcome Standards and TAE training package for validation
  • The role of effective assessment mapping as a foundation for successful validation of assessment tools and judgements
