GenAI can assist learning in myriad ways; let's focus on this as an effective assistive technology

The rise of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) is shaking up the way we live, learn and work. And, the education sector – VET included – is feeling the impact.

RTOs, trainers, and assessors are required to shift thinking about this technology and the way it is used. A mindful approach to ethical use of generative AI is absolutely necessary and this session unpacks some of the reasons why.

Folks are experimenting with GenAI tools like ChatGPT, and it's time to turn that curiosity into opportunity for our learners and the learning environment. However, we must also balance the capabilities of this technology with the risks and benefits it brings for innovative practice and personalised learning experiences. This session will:

  • Examine the positive impacts and efficiencies AI can bring for students and trainers alike
  • Unpack the types of considerations that come with the use of artificial intelligence and,
  • Explore different AI tools and the various ways they can assist

Key topics covered

  • Thinking about AI as a ‘helper’ – not just as a risk to authenticity
  • Ethical considerations in adoption/deployment of artificial intelligence in the learning environment
  • Ways AI as a tool can benefit the learning process
  • Various tools your learners might like to try (if they haven’t already!)

Important note: this session does not address issues linked to use of AI in assessment, with focus instead on the learning process and supporting that.
