From Learning to Evidence: Helping Learners Show What They Can Do
Thursday 13 May 2027 | 11am AEST | Presented by Wendy Palmer
Completing a course or qualification tells us that learning has taken place, but it doesn’t always help learners explain what they actually know and can do. Valuable evidence can sit unnoticed in assessments, projects, workplace activities and everyday learning experiences, while learners struggle to translate these experiences into language they can use beyond the course.
Helping learners recognise and capture their learning can make that learning more useful and portable. By reflecting on what they have done, identifying the skills and capabilities they have developed, and selecting meaningful evidence, learners can build a clearer picture of what they bring to employment, further learning and other opportunities.
This session explores practical ways trainers and assessors can build reflection, evidence capture and skills articulation into existing learning activities. We’ll look at different forms of evidence, how learners can connect evidence to what they know and can do, and simple approaches for helping them communicate their capabilities with greater confidence.
Through practical examples and easy-to-implement activities, you’ll explore ways to move beyond completion as the end point and help learners leave with meaningful evidence of their learning that they can understand, explain and use.
